From Farm Tractor to a Military Truck
... The "Unimog" or "Universal Motorized Unit" was designed for agricultural work by the Göppingen firm Boehringer. After this firm's takeover by Mercedes Benz, the "Unimog" became one of the German Federal Army most important vehicle platforms. The classic S 404 was placed into service between 1955 and 1972 as the type LKW 1,5 t gl (4 x 4) with a broad program of superstructure variations. The German Federal Army's vehicles were in use up to the turn of the millennium and were replaced by new "Unimog" types. The "Unimog" has been giving good results for decades for the armies of other countries.
