The Blücher was the second of the five heavy cruisers of the Admiral Hipper class of the German Kriegsmarine, built after the rise of the Nazi Party and its rejection of the Treaty of Versailles. Named after the Prussian field marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, one of the victors of the Battle of Waterloo, the cruiser was built in August 1936 and was launched in June 1937. It was completed in September 1939, shortly after of the outbreak of World War II. After conducting the sea trials and several training maneuvers, the ship was ready for service with the German fleet on April 5, 1940.

.... | Oskar Kummetz was a German general admiral who served in the German Imperial Navy during the First World War as commander of torpedo flotillas at the end of the conflict and in the Kriegsmarine during World War II Kummetz was awarded the Cross of the Knight of the Cross Iron for his performance in the Battle of Narrow Drøbak on April 9, 1940, the first day of the so-called Operation Weserübung. In the course of the same the heavy cruiser Blücher was sunk under his command by the shots fired from a cannon of a Norwegian fortress. |

Returns
