EA-6B Prowler, VAQ-142 Gray Wolves, Afghanistan, 2006, 1:72, JC Wings
The Grumman EA-6B Prowler served as the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps' primary electronic warfare aircraft for more than four decades. Derived from the A-6 Intruder, it featured a four-man crew and sophisticated electronic countermeasure systems capable of detecting, locating and jamming enemy radar, communications and air defence networks. In addition to its electronic attack mission, the Prowler could carry AGM-88 HARM anti-radiation missiles to destroy enemy surface-to-air missile sites, making it an indispensable asset for protecting coalition strike packages. The EA-6B saw combat in Vietnam, the Gulf War, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan before being replaced by the EA-18G Growler.
This model depicts the EA-6B Prowler of VAQ-142 "Gray Wolves", deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. VAQ-142 became the first U.S. Navy electronic attack squadron to operate from Bagram Air Base inside Afghanistan, providing electronic protection for coalition aircraft, disrupting enemy communications and supporting counter-IED operations. Its missions were vital in ensuring electromagnetic superiority throughout the campaign.
