Focke Wulf Fw190A-8 / R2 'Black 8' Unteroffizier Willi Maximowitz, II Staffel (Sturm) IV / JG.3, 1:72, Corgi
Willi Maximowitz was born on January 29, 1920 in Wuppertal-Barnen. At the end of 1943, when Commander Von Kornatzski was looking for volunteers for the Sturmstaffel 1, Maximowitz, at that time an Unteroffizier with JG 1, was one of those who enlisted. He had already achieved his first success when he shot down a B-24 bomber on January 30, 1944. On March 23, 1944, he shot down his third four-engine bomber, a B-17 from the USAAF, but his Focke-Wulf 190 A-6 ( W.Nr. 551 099) "White 10" was hit by gunfire from the bombers and an injured Maximowitz had to retreat near Wuppertal. After the recovery of his wounds he returned to Sturmstaffel 1, knocking down another B-17 on Helmstedt on April 29, 1944. On May 8, 1944, Sturmstaffel 1 was integrated into IV./JG 3 as his 11. Staffel. In June, Maximowitz undertook combat flights in support of the German army in Normandy. These missions were flown with the IV.Gruppe from the Dreux airfield in France. Maximowitz knocked down a B-17 near Leipzig, which would be his tenth victory on July 20. On July 28 the IV./JG 3 revolvió against the bombers of four engines of the USAAF. Maximowitz was shot down by the combat escort and was slightly wounded. On July 30 he was promoted to the Feldwebel rank, but was injured in a landing accident on Fw 190 A-8 / R2 (No. 680 756). After recovering from his injuries, he returned to his unit (renamed 14./JG 3 on August 10). Wikipedia
