A-7E Corsair II, VA-45 Clansmen, Desert Storm, 1991, 1:72, JC Wings
The LTV A-7E Corsair II was one of the U.S. Navy's most successful carrier-based attack aircraft. Developed as the successor to the A-4 Skyhawk, it combined exceptional payload capacity, long range and outstanding strike accuracy. Equipped with advanced navigation and attack systems, the A-7E could employ a wide range of conventional bombs, AGM-88 HARM missiles, AGM-84E SLAM missiles and other precision-guided weapons, making it one of the most effective naval strike aircraft of the 1970s and 1980s. It remained in frontline service until the end of the Gulf War before being replaced by the F/A-18 Hornet.
This model depicts the A-7E Corsair II of VA-45 "Clansmen" during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Although VA-45 served primarily as the U.S. Navy's fleet replacement training squadron, its aircraft carried distinctive markings used to train future A-7E pilots before assignment to operational units. During the Gulf War, the Corsair II demonstrated exceptional reliability and precision while flying suppression of enemy air defences, strategic strike and close air support missions. The final operational A-7E squadrons completed the campaign with an outstanding mission success rate before the aircraft's retirement later that year.
