The Agusta SH-3D Sea King was one of the most important rotary-wing aircraft operated by the Spanish Navy during the second half of the twentieth century. Developed from the American Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King and manufactured under license by Agusta in Italy, the helicopter became renowned for its exceptional versatility and reliability. The Spanish Navy's 5th Squadron operated the SH-3D extensively in anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue missions, troop transport and logistical support operations. Based primarily aboard the aircraft carrier Dédalo and later the carrier Príncipe de Asturias, the Sea King became one of the most recognizable aircraft in Spanish naval aviation. Equipped with amphibious capabilities, twin turboshaft engines and advanced avionics for its time, the SH-3D served Spain with distinction for several decades and remains one of the most iconic military helicopters ever operated by the Armada Española.
