Fairey Swordfish Mk I, RNFAA No.810 Sqn, HMS Ark Royal, 1939, 1:72, Corgi
This Corgi model represents aircraft W5856 in the pre-war markings of No. 810 Naval Air Squadron aboard HMS Ark Royal in 1939. Although W5856 was built in 1941 and later restored to flying condition, it now wears the authentic livery of an 810 Squadron Swordfish from the famous British aircraft carrier. The Swordfish achieved worldwide fame during the attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto in November 1940 and for disabling the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, two operations that cemented its reputation as one of the most successful naval aircraft ever built. Its combination of reliability, simplicity and operational effectiveness has made the Fairey Swordfish an enduring icon of Fleet Air Arm aviation.
