The De Havilland Mosquito FB.VI was one of the most versatile and successful variants of the legendary "Wooden Wonder." Constructed primarily from wood and powered by two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, it combined exceptional speed with formidable firepower, carrying four 20 mm Hispano cannons, four .303 Browning machine guns and a substantial bomb or rocket load. The FB.VI served in low-level strike, interdiction, escort and tactical support missions throughout the European Theatre during the Second World War.
This model depicts Mosquito FB.VI LR364/SY-E, flown by Wing Commander John Randall Daniel "Bob" Braham, the RAF's highest-scoring night fighter ace and one of Britain's most highly decorated fighter pilots. After achieving numerous victories flying the Bristol Beaufighter and later the Mosquito, Braham commanded No. 141 Wing, leading precision strike operations against German targets across occupied Europe. His outstanding leadership, combat experience and aggressive flying style made him one of the RAF's most distinguished airmen of the Second World War.
