This Corgi model represents the famous "Black B-1" flown by Lieutenant Commander Richard H. Best, commanding officer of Bombing Squadron Six (VB-6) aboard USS Enterprise (CV-6), during the Battle of Midway on 4 June 1942. Best scored one of the most decisive hits of the Pacific War when his bomb struck the Japanese aircraft carrier Akagi, contributing directly to its destruction. The American victory at Midway permanently shifted the balance of naval power in the Pacific and established the SBD Dauntless as one of the most legendary carrier aircraft of World War II.
