The Squadron is based at the Rota Naval Base Air Wing, in Hangar No. 9. Its second home is the aircraft carrier Juan Carlos I, from which it operates whenever it participates in any exercise or mission, whether domestic or international.
The 9th Squadron’s missions include: Combat Air Patrols (CAP) in defense of the Naval Force; armed reconnaissance and attacks against naval and ground targets using all types of munitions; Close Air Support (CAS) in support of ground forces; and helicopter protection escorts.
They are equipped with air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, including short- and medium-range missiles, as well as laser-guided bombs, and are capable of operating at all times with night vision goggles.
