The Grumman F-14D Tomcat was the ultimate production version of the legendary U.S. Navy fleet defense fighter. Powered by General Electric F110 engines and equipped with the advanced AN/APG-71 radar, digital avionics and upgraded combat systems, the F-14D represented the peak of the Tomcat's development. Originally designed as a long-range interceptor, it later evolved into a highly capable precision strike aircraft through the integration of the LANTIRN targeting pod and laser-guided weapons, serving with distinction in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq.
This model depicts an F-14D Tomcat of VF-2 "Bounty Hunters" during its Last Cruise in 2003 aboard USS Constellation (CV-64). During this deployment, the squadron took part in Operation Iraqi Freedom, flying air superiority, escort, reconnaissance and precision strike missions. VF-2 was among the last U.S. Navy squadrons to operate the F-14D in combat before the Tomcat's retirement from active service in 2006. Its distinctive "Bounty Hunters" markings make this aircraft one of the most desirable late-service Tomcats among collectors.
