F-23 "Ghost Scheme" 64th AGRS, USAF

F-23 "Ghost Scheme" 64th AGRS, USAF, 1:72, Hobby Master

The Northrop YF-23 was developed during the closing years of the Cold War as part of the United States Air Force Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) programme, which sought a new air-superiority fighter to replace the F-15 Eagle. Northrop collaborated with McDonnell Douglas on an advanced stealth design distinguished by its trapezoidal wings, widely separated canted tail surfaces and an aerodynamic configuration highly optimised to reduce radar signature.
Two prototypes took part in the evaluation programme: PAV-1 “Black Widow II” and PAV-2 “Gray Ghost”. The YF-23 demonstrated excellent performance, particularly in speed, range and low-observable characteristics. However, in 1991 the USAF selected Lockheed's competing YF-22 design, which subsequently evolved into the F-22 Raptor. The YF-23 programme ended following the competition, and both prototypes were eventually preserved as important examples of American aviation history.
This version combines the distinctive lines of the F-23 with the striking “Ghost Scheme” associated with USAF Aggressor aircraft, specialised units used to reproduce the tactics and characteristics of potential adversaries during advanced air-combat training exercises conducted from Nellis Air Force Base.
