Kenneth A. Walsh was one of the U.S. Marine Corps' most successful Corsair pilots. A veteran of the Pacific campaigns and a Medal of Honor recipient, he finished the Second World War with 21 credited aerial victories. Hobby Master has also reproduced another Walsh F4U-4, the “White 13” of VMF-222 on Okinawa, as HA8226. In 1945 Walsh served with VMF-222 during the final operations against Japan. From Awase on Okinawa, Corsairs could conduct long-range missions against targets in the Japanese home islands. HA8229 represents Walsh's F4U-4 under the “Tokyo Raid” designation, reflecting these operations during the closing phase of the Pacific War. Hobby Master specifically lists the release as “F4U-4 Corsair ‘Tokyo Raid’, Capt. Kenneth Walsh, VMF-222, Awase, 1945”.
