The Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet is the two-seat version of the U.S. Navy's primary carrier-based multirole fighter. Designed for air superiority, strike, reconnaissance, escort and suppression of enemy air defences, the Super Hornet combines advanced avionics, a sophisticated multi-mode radar and excellent carrier-operating capability. Since entering service in 2001, it has seen extensive combat operations over Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, establishing itself as one of the most versatile naval combat aircraft in the world.
This model depicts the F/A-18F Super Hornet of VFA-103 "Jolly Rogers" wearing the spectacular 70th Anniversary special colour scheme applied in 2013 to aircraft AG200. The commemorative livery revived the original colours and skull-and-crossbones insignia of the legendary World War II VF-17 Jolly Rogers, creating one of the most striking paint schemes ever carried by a Super Hornet. Based at NAS Oceana and assigned to Carrier Air Wing Seven, VFA-103 remains one of the U.S. Navy's most famous strike fighter squadrons and continues to operate the F/A-18F from American aircraft carriers.
