Fokker Dr.I Triplane, Werner Voss, Jasta 10, 1917, 1:48, Carousel 1, Ref. 7122
The Fokker Dr.I was one of the most distinctive fighters of the First World War. Its triplane configuration provided exceptional manoeuvrability and an excellent rate of climb, although its maximum speed was lower than that of some contemporary fighters.
Werner Voss was one of Germany's leading fighter aces, credited with 48 aerial victories. In 1917 he received one of the early Fokker F.I prototypes, an aircraft closely related to the subsequent Dr.I, and flew it during the final weeks of his career. Voss was killed on 23 September 1917, aged just 20, after an extraordinary engagement against several British SE5a fighters of No. 56 Squadron.
