Glenn Martin 167 Maryland, 1941 France, 1:144, Altaya
The Glenn Martin 167 Maryland was a twin-engine light bomber developed by the American Glenn L. Martin Company in the late 1930s. Originally designed to meet a United States Army Air Corps requirement, the aircraft was not adopted by the American military but attracted strong interest abroad, particularly in France. The French Air Force ordered more than two hundred Martin 167F aircraft, which entered service shortly before the German invasion of 1940. Thanks to its high speed, good maneuverability and robust construction, the Maryland performed better than many contemporary French bombers and suffered comparatively low losses during the Battle of France. Surviving aircraft later continued to serve with French forces in North Africa and with the Royal Air Force, where the type received the official name Maryland. It was used for reconnaissance, tactical bombing and maritime patrol missions, becoming one of the most advanced light bombers of the early Second World War period.
