Grumman A6E Intruder "Devil 505" 151686, VA-196, USS Independence, 1:72, Hobby Master

The A-6E became the most important and long-lived version of the family. It incorporated improved navigation and attack systems and received successive upgrades throughout its career, enabling it to employ an extensive range of conventional and precision-guided weapons. Its considerable range and payload made it one of the most effective carrier-based attack aircraft of its generation. Aircraft 151686, identified as “Devil 505”, was assigned to VA-196 “Main Battery”, one of the U.S. Navy attack squadrons specialising in the Intruder. The unit completed numerous operational deployments and during part of its service formed part of the carrier air wing embarked aboard USS Independence (CV-62). USS Independence was a Forrestal-class aircraft carrier that served from 1959 until 1998. During its long career it participated in numerous deployments and international operations, providing a platform from which units such as VA-196 could exploit the A-6E's long range and all-weather strike capability.
