Leopard 1 Bundeswehr Heer Pz.Btl.153 Y-878 129/257 1972, Koblenz, 1:72, Panzerkampf
The Leopard 1 was the first main battle tank developed by West Germany after the Second World War and became the foundation of the Bundeswehr's armored forces. Officially entering service in 1965, it was designed with an emphasis on mobility, firepower and mechanical reliability rather than heavy armor. Armed with the renowned British-designed 105 mm L7A3 gun, the Leopard 1 could reach speeds of up to 65 km/h and quickly established itself as one of the most successful and widely exported main battle tanks of the Cold War.
This model depicts a Leopard 1 of Panzerbataillon 153 (Pz.Btl.153) of the Bundeswehr Heer, carrying registration Y-878 and tactical number 129/257, based at Koblenz, West Germany, in 1972. At the time, the battalion formed part of NATO's forward armoured forces in Central Europe. The vehicle represents one of the early production Leopard 1 tanks before the introduction of later A1 and A2 upgrades, retaining the distinctive features of the original production series. Its markings accurately reflect an operational Leopard 1 serving with Pz.Btl.153 during the early 1970s.
