Messerschmitt Me 262A-2a 'Blitz Bomber', 1:72, Corgi
The Messerschmitt Me 262A-2a "Blitz Bomber" was the fighter-bomber variant of the world's first operational jet-powered combat aircraft. Developed from the famous Me 262 fighter, the A-2a was designed to carry up to 1,000 kg of bombs for attacks against bridges, airfields, troop concentrations and other strategic Allied targets. Powered by two Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engines, it could exceed 850 km/h, making it considerably faster than any piston-engined Allied fighter and allowing it to conduct high-speed strike missions with a greater chance of escaping interception.
This model depicts the Me 262A-2a "Blitz Bomber", a variant operated primarily by Kampfgeschwader 51 "Edelweiss" during the final months of World War II. Although limited production numbers, fuel shortages and Germany's deteriorating military situation prevented it from having a decisive strategic impact, the Me 262 proved the enormous potential of jet propulsion and ushered in a new era of military aviation. Its revolutionary design influenced virtually every generation of post-war jet fighters.
