The Messerschmitt Me 410A-1/U3 "Hornisse" was one of the Luftwaffe's most advanced twin-engine heavy fighters of the Second World War. Designed as the successor to the Bf 110, it featured more powerful Daimler-Benz DB 603 engines, higher speed and heavier armament, making it suitable for bomber interception, heavy fighter and reconnaissance missions. From 1943 onwards, the Me 410 became a key component of Germany's Defence of the Reich against increasingly powerful USAAF bomber formations.
This model depicts the aircraft flown by Hauptmann Eduard Tratt, commander of II./ZG 26 and the highest-scoring German Zerstörer pilot of the war with 38 confirmed aerial victories. Tratt played a leading role in the operational use of the Me 410 against Allied heavy bombers. He was killed on 22 February 1944 while leading an interception mission over Germany, leaving behind a remarkable combat record and a lasting place in Luftwaffe history.
