Mil Mi-24P 5th Helicopter Squadron 512, 1988, Basepohl Air Base, East German Air Force, 1:72, Panzerkampf
The Mil Mi-24P "Hind-F" was one of the most powerful versions of the famous Soviet attack helicopter. Introduced in the early 1980s, it replaced the movable nose-mounted machine gun of earlier variants with a fixed twin-barrel 30 mm GSh-30-2K cannon mounted on the starboard side of the fuselage, significantly increasing its firepower against armoured vehicles and fortified positions. In addition to its heavy weapons load, the Mi-24P retained the ability to carry up to eight fully equipped troops, making it one of the few helicopters capable of combining the roles of gunship and tactical transport.
This model depicts Mil Mi-24P "Black 512" of the 5th Helicopter Squadron, based at Basepohl Air Base in East Germany during 1988. These helicopters formed an important part of the Warsaw Pact's frontline forces in Central Europe, prepared for close air support, anti-tank operations and border defence missions. Following German reunification, East German Mi-24Ps were temporarily integrated into the Luftwaffe before being evaluated, transferred to other operators or preserved in museums.
