P-51D Mustang 'Cripes A'Mighty', Major George Preddy

The North American P-51D Mustang was the premier long-range escort fighter of the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War. Combining exceptional range, speed and manoeuvrability, it enabled Allied bombers to reach deep into occupied Europe while providing effective fighter protection. Powered by the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the Mustang is widely regarded as one of the finest piston-engined fighters ever built.
This model represents the famous P-51D Mustang "Cripes A'Mighty", flown by Major George E. Preddy Jr., the highest-scoring USAAF P-51 Mustang ace of World War II. Serving with the 328th Fighter Squadron, 352nd Fighter Group, Preddy achieved 26.83 confirmed aerial victories before being tragically killed by friendly fire on Christmas Day 1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. His blue-nosed Mustang remains one of the most celebrated fighter aircraft of the war and a lasting symbol of American fighter aviation.
