Sea King SH-3G HC-2, USS John F. Kennedy, 1970, 1:72, Legion
The Sikorsky SH-3G Sea King was one of the most versatile variants of the legendary American naval helicopter, developed to perform logistics support, search and rescue (SAR), personnel transport and vertical replenishment missions. Derived from the SH-3A, the SH-3G had much of its anti-submarine equipment removed to increase cabin capacity and improve its effectiveness in carrier support operations. Its reliability, long range and payload made it one of the U.S. Navy's most valuable helicopters throughout the Cold War.
This model represents an SH-3G operated by Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Two (HC-2) "Fleet Angels" aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CVA-67) during the 1970s. Assigned to carrier support duties, these helicopters carried out logistics flights, plane guard missions, personnel transport and search-and-rescue operations, playing a vital role in the daily operation of one of the U.S. Navy's principal aircraft carriers. The Sea King became one of the most successful and recognisable shipborne helicopters ever operated by the U.S. Navy.
