Spanish knight 15th century, 1:30, Del Prado

The Spanish knight of the fifteenth century represented the military elite of the Iberian kingdoms during the closing years of the Reconquista and the rise of the Spanish Monarchy. Trained from an early age in horsemanship, lance and sword combat, he fought wearing increasingly sophisticated plate armour and rode specially trained warhorses. Beyond his military role, the knight was expected to uphold a strict code of honour based on loyalty to the Crown, the defence of the Christian faith and service to the common good. These ideals reached their height during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, when cavalry played a decisive role in the conquest of the Kingdom of Granada and the consolidation of royal authority.
This figure depicts a Spanish knight of the fifteenth century equipped with full plate armour, sword and cavalry lance. His equipment reflects the evolution of military technology during the final decades of the Middle Ages, when heavy cavalry reached its highest level of development before the widespread introduction of firearms. Spanish knights of this era took part in some of the most significant campaigns in Iberian history and laid the foundations for the military prestige that would characterise Spanish armies in the centuries that followed.
