The Spz Marder 1 A2 was an infantry fighting vehicle developed for the West German Bundeswehr during the Cold War. Designed to operate alongside Leopard main battle tanks, the Marder combined mobility, armored protection, and mechanized infantry transport capability. The A2 version introduced improvements in armor protection, night vision systems, and NBC protection, significantly increasing crew and troop survivability. Panzergrenadierbataillon 292 operated the Marder 1 A2 in Germany in 1990 during the final years of the Cold War and the period surrounding German reunification.
