The Sukhoi Su-24MR "Fencer-E" is the dedicated tactical reconnaissance variant of the famous Su-24 supersonic strike aircraft. Designed to operate at high speed and very low altitude in all weather conditions, it replaces much of the attack equipment with an extensive reconnaissance suite including optical cameras, infrared sensors, side-looking airborne radar and electronic intelligence systems. Its variable-geometry wings and advanced navigation systems enable deep-penetration reconnaissance missions while providing real-time battlefield intelligence. The Su-24MR remains one of the most capable reconnaissance aircraft still in service with operators of the Su-24 family.
This model depicts a Su-24MR Fencer-E of the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade (7th BrTA) of the Ukrainian Air Force during the Ukraine War in 2023. Based at Starokostiantyniv Air Base, the brigade has played a key role throughout the conflict, carrying out tactical reconnaissance, target acquisition and support missions for strike aircraft. Its Su-24MR aircraft have appeared with updated camouflage schemes and distinctive wartime identification markings, becoming some of the most recognisable aircraft operated by the Ukrainian Air Force during the conflict.
