The U-59 was a submarine type IIC of the Kriegsmarine of the Nazi Germany that served in the Second World War. It was built by Deutsche Werke AG, Kiel. He was commanded by the Oberleutnant zur See Harald Jürst.
The ship began its race practicing with the 5th Fleet of submarines from March to December of 1939. It was declared operational on January 1, 1940 with the 1st Flotilla. It was assigned to the 22nd Flotilla on January 1, 1941, then to the 19th Flotilla on July 1, 1944. The last two assignments were as a school boat. He carried out 13 patrols in which he sank 17 merchant ships, two auxiliary warships and damaged a tanker. Another objective was declared as "total loss".
