The Sukhoi Su-27 was developed by the Soviet Union as a high-performance air-superiority fighter designed to counter Western aircraft such as the F-15 Eagle and F-14 Tomcat. Entering service during the 1980s, the aircraft became particularly noted for its long range, high speed and exceptional manoeuvrability.
Following Ukrainian independence in 1991, a number of Soviet Su-27s stationed on Ukrainian territory became part of the newly established Ukrainian Air Force. These aircraft remained operational for decades and received various upgrades to maintain their combat capability.
During the war following Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine adapted some of its Soviet-designed combat aircraft to employ Western-supplied weapons. These modifications included the integration of JDAM-ER guided glide bombs, providing an increased stand-off precision-strike capability.
Hobby Master HA6027 represents Su-27 Flanker B “Blue 21” in Ukrainian Air Force service carrying two JDAM-ER glide bombs, a weapons configuration specifically identified by Hobby Master for this release.
