Submarine HMS Ultor, Great Britain, World War II, 1: 350, Editions Atlas
The HMS Ultor (P53) was a submarine of the U-class of the Royal Navy built by Vickers-Armstrong in Barrow-in-Furness. Launched in 1942.During the Second World War, the Ultor operated in the Mediterranean Sea, where it sank the French ship Penerf, the Italian auxiliary minesweeper No.92 Tullio, the Italian merchant Valfiorita, the Italian shortstop Lince, the German merchant Aversa the sailboat German Paule, the German fender FCi 01, the German patrol boat SG-11, the German tugboat Cebre, the German oil tankers Felix 1 and Tempo 3, the German auxiliary patrol vessel Vinotra III and the German underwater submarine hunter UJ 2211 / Hardy. The Ultor also sank nine sailboats in the Mediterranean.
In October of 1943, when the Aversa sank, the Ultor had fired 68 torpedoes, of which 32 were successful, the highest percentage of accurate shots fired by any submarine commander until that moment. The submarine was under the command of George Hunt.
The Ultor survived the war and returned to the coastal settlement of HMS Dolphin, Gosport, then joined the 6th Flotilla in Blyth. When Blyth closed, the Ultor headed to Rothesay with the HMS Cyclops depot ship. It was scrapped at Briton Ferry in January 1946.
