HISTORY
The Haruna (榛 名) Was a battleship of the Kongō Class (1913), built in the Kawasaki shipyards in Kobe. Initially created as a battle cruiser, modifications to the entire class prior to World War II made them battleships. The Haruna was named after the Japanese homonymous volcano.
Throughout World War II, it provided coverage to the Japanese invasion forces in the Dutch East Indies during January and February 1942, passing in April to the Indian Ocean to fight the British fleet alongside an aircraft carrier force. Later he participated in the battle of Midway in June 1942, the battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942, the naval battle of Guadalcanal in November 1942, the battle of the Sea of the Philippines in June 1944 and the battle of the Gulf of Leyte in October 1944.
Its end came while it was moored in the port of Kure, where bombers embarked from Task Force 38 and heavy bombers B-24 managed to sink it. After the war, his helmet was refloated and scrapped throughout 1946.
