The Mitsubishi F-1 was the first supersonic military jet developed and built in Japan. In 1978, the JASDF began to replace the old F-86 with the first of 77 Mitsubishi F-1s. In 1981, the sixth squad (Hikotai) became the third team unit with the F-1. The F-1 was considered until 2006 when it was replaced by the Mitsubishi F-2. When the F-1 90-8227 was recalled, it was dispatched to the JASDF Air Park at Hamamatsu AB in Shizuoka Prefecture, where an indoor exhibit is located.
