MKII Matilda, United Kingdom, 1939/43, 1:72, Atlas Editions
The Matilda, whose official name was Infantry Tank Mark II (A12), was a medium tank used by the British, Australian and other Allied armies during the Second World War. The first models entered service in France at the end of 1939 as an auxiliary armored element of the infantry, with the British Expeditionary Force. Despite its thick armor (10-60 mm), its low but rapid firepower soon made it obsolete. Although the Mark II series came to later enter combat in France, its baptism of fire was in North Africa. It was used in large numbers, especially from Operation Crusader. He was capable of destroying any Italian armor in that theater of operations, but due to his low speed (9mph or 15kmph) he could not place himself in optimum firing position against the German Panzer III and Panzer IV. A total of 3,000 units were built.
