P-40C 48 was the fighter piloted by David Lee “Tex” Hill, one of the top aces of the AVG (Flying Tigers) in China between 1941 and 1942. As squadron leader of the "Panda Bears," Hill scored 11.25 kills with this aircraft, participating in key engagements over Burma, Thailand, and China. His P-40C sported the distinctive shark mouth and AVG camouflage. After the group's dissolution, Hill continued to fight with the U.S. Air Force, amassing a total of 18.25 aerial victories. He was one of the most distinguished pilots on the Chinese Front.
