USS Essex aircraft carrier, US Navy, 1942, 1: 1250, DeAgostini

The USS Essex (CV-9) was an aircraft carrier, the first of the 24 aircraft carriers of the Essex class to be the United States Navy during the Second World War. Put into service in December 1942, the Essex participated in several campaigns in the Pacific, which won the presidential summons and 13 combat stars. Discharged shortly after the end of the war, it was modernized and discharged again in the early 1950s as an attack aircraft carrier (CVA) and later as an antisubmarine aircraft carrier (CVS). During his second period of activity, he served mainly in the Atlantic, highlighting his participation in the blockade of Cuba during the Missile Crisis. He also participated in the Korean War, winning in this conflict four stars of combat and the meritorious entrustment to the unit of the army. He was also the primary receiver of the Apollo 7 space mission. He was last decommissioned in 1969 and sold for scrapping in 1975.
