Auxiliary Cruiser Kormoran, Kriegsmarine, 1940, 1: 1250, DeAgostini
The Kormoran was a German freighter armed and reformed to make war on the allied sea traffic during the Second World War. The Kriegsmarine commandeered it as Schiff 41 (Ship), enlisted it under the denomination of Commercial Cruise Cruise (Handelsstörkreuzer 8, HSK 8) as an auxiliary cruiser. The British Navy named Raider G at Kormoran. It was the largest of the German auxiliary cruisers in World War II. It was built between 1938 and 1939 with the number 578 in the shipyard Germaniawerft in Kiel. It displaced 8,736 GRT with diesel-electric propulsion under the flag of the Hamburg-Amerika HAPAG Line under the name of Steiermark and on the routes of East Asia. At the beginning of 1940 in the shipyard Deutsche Werft AG of Hamburg-Finkenwerder transformed it into auxiliary cruiser and the 9 of October of 1940 was enlisted like Cruise of commercial interference, to the command of the captain of corvette (later of frigate) Theodor Detmers.
